Ex-wife Did Not Update Car Title, Got My License Suspended. Florida.
Any advice? Here’s what happened. Divorce was finalized almost a year ago, and as part of the divorce she received my car. My name was first on both of the titles and with her added at some point.
In October, her license was suspended because she has seizures. My ex-wife then canceled her car insurance because she cannot drive.
Apparently in Florida, when you cancel car insurance, your license is automatically suspended if you do not turn in your license plate. I received a letter saying my license is now suspended (to my surprise, I have not been pulled over in 8-9 years).
I have to drive to work and will be driving with a suspended license tomorrow until I have time to go to the DMV with the divorce paperwork and my current insurance on my vehicle.
Can I force my ex-wife to change the car title?? I haven’t had possession for 3 years, and legally have not owned it for a year. Any other advice is greatly appreciated, thank you.
TLDR: 1. Ex-wife’s license was suspended for seizures 2. She cancelled her car insurance because she cannot drive 3. Apparently she didn’t update the car title a year ago, so now my license has been suspended
