Expired Us Driver's License But Valid Foreign License -- Can I Drive?

I have been living outside the US for the past year and my Pennsylvania driver's license has since expired. I am now planning to move to CA, but my car (registered under my name) is in PA. I plan to fly to PA and then drive my car to CA.

I know non-residents can drive in most states with a foreign license, but would I run into some kind of trouble if I get pulled over because my DMV records will show that I have an expired PA license? My plan would be to show my foreign license and explain that I'm not a PA resident anymore and that I will apply for a CA license once I'm there. TIA!!
