Family Inheritance Lawyer Seems To Be Avoiding Calls For Months Now

Card image cap

Its my first time posting here so apologies if Im wording anything badly.

Back in October of last year me and my sister were contacted by our aunt on our dads side who said we had a family member pass away and since our dad was dead his part of that inheritance would pass onto us.
We received the paperwork in late October early November and sent it back and were told we would hear from the lawyer directly within the coming weeks before the end of December to avoid paying taxes on the inheritance for further context me and my sister live in Florida and the majority of the family as well as the lawyer are in Tennessee.
When we didn't hear anything right before the end of the year we both called and asked our aunt if she had heard anything, she hadn't. And when we called the office his secretary told us he was out sick and he would be reaching out to all the heirs. Skip ahead to this week. We havent heard anything for awhile so me and my sister called separate days and got told the same exact thing, that he was sick out of office and he would be calling all the heirs within the next week.

My question is, is this normal for an inheritance process to take this long? At what point should I worry if none of the heirs have been contacted? Sorry for over explaining I just feel out of my depth on it all.
