Fiancés Parents Want To Hire An Attorney To Deem Her Incompetent So We Can’t See Each Other.

My fiancé & I have a past history of problems in our relationship involving law enforcement. I (27M) have been with my fiancé (34F) for a few years. We got into a DV incident this year and as a result, her family want no involvement with me, as well as forcing her to have no involvement with me.

They filed a protective order under her name in November which she then got dismissed which pissed them off. They want her to stop associating with me but she won’t listen, so today her mother said they will hire an attorney to deem her incompetent so they become her legal guardians just because they don’t want us seeing each other. Is that a real thing? Any legal merit to that? She is a fully functioning grown 34 year old employed woman. They are only doing this just to prevent us from seeing each other. Full of shit or there’s legal merit to it? I just assumed a third party has no right to what someone else wants to do or who they wanna see. If I don’t like my neighbor associating with my other neighbor, I have no right to prevent them from associating.
