Fired For Calling Osha

Mule account for obv reasons:
We’ve had massive issues regarding damaged floors and leaking ceilings for many years. Documented photos since 2021 and many many complaints every month u til present time.
Water pours in and freezes on walkable surfaces etc. Collectively I would say about 20% of the staff has been affected daily.
After years of complaints I finally called and made an official complaint on a Friday. I was pulled aside and my boss danced around the topic to not directly ask me, and rather gave me a lot of good merits regarding my job etc. all positive feedback.
The following Saturday, after OSHA called the worksite, most of these problems were fixed in a single 6 hour day.
Monday comes, and I approached my boss to say it looks good and I’m happy it’s fixed. I didn’t like that I had to make the cal but nothing was being done.
End of the day I am laid off due to “lack of work.” I hold a specialized position that handles day to day ops. There certainly was not a lack of work.
After speaking with an OSHA rep, I have filed a whistleblower retaliation form with the completed questionaire as there was no doubt in my mind that that was the reason. Over 80% of the staff cannot fathom why I was let go. (I kept the OSHA thing to myself and only the individuals who complained)
I later find out today that numerous other employees involved have been let go.
I have documented images of these complaints, with photos and timestamps.
I guess my question is, did I do the right thing? Could this blow up in my face? I’m not looking for some big pay out, I want the people who have become my second family to be and remain safe.
Thanks all. I apologize if my wording is ambiguous. The employer in question has been known to paint any “complainers” as crazy and r-words. We’ve had many issues of harassment and bullying as well as “missing evidence”
Ramble done I suppose.
