Fired With No Notice, Now My Employer Is Lying To The Department Of Labor About Me Quitting.
Hey Reddit,
I need some advice because I’m really stuck in a frustrating situation and don’t know what to do next.
On June 26th, 2024, I was working for a company and was told to stay home until the truck I used for work got repaired. This wasn’t a big deal—I figured it was a temporary issue, and they’d let me know when I was needed again. However, after I stayed home for a while, I didn’t hear anything from my employer. I tried reaching out multiple times to check in and see when I should come back to work, but they never responded.
Weeks went by with no word, and I started to get concerned. Eventually, I decided to file for unemployment benefits, thinking that it was the right thing to do since I wasn’t working and hadn’t heard from my employer in a long time.
Now here’s where it gets really messed up: when I checked the status of my unemployment claim, I found out that my employer had submitted a statement to the Department of Labor claiming that I voluntarily quit because I found another job. This is 100% false. I never quit. I was told to stay home, and when I tried to check in, I got no response. I’ve been left in the dark this entire time, and now they’re making it look like I just walked away from the job.
I’m really worried this is going to mess up my unemployment claim. Has anyone here been in a similar situation? What can I do to fight this? I’ve already provided my side of the story, but I’m not sure what the next steps are.
Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I’m just trying to get some clarity and make sure I don’t get screwed over by this whole situation. Thanks in advance!
