Girlfriend’s Mother Had A Family Friend That Owns A Company Run A Background Check On Me- Using My Id That She Searched Through My Stuff To Find.
Title pretty much says it all. Girlfriend’s mother went through my stuff to find my ID while we were staying at her place for the holidays. She then took a photo of the front and back- and emailed it to a family friend, who is the owner of a business in their hometown. Said owner submitted the background check as if I were a new/ prospective employee- and then emailed it back to her. My girlfriend then found the copies of my ID, and background check on her mother’s laptop while completing an unrelated task.
I feel extremely violated- and I’m assuming there were multiple laws violated here. I did not provide her with my ID, I did not consent to a background check, and I was not a potential employee for this company. In fact, I have never even met the owner of the company who conducted the background check.
The background check was completed via clear (appears to be the same company that operates the program that is similar to TSA pre check).
I now have a copy of the email communication, including the results of the background check.
I definitely want to pursue this. Her mom has an extensive history of overstepping boundaries, and invading other’s privacy. She is heavily involved in politics for her state- and even holds a position in her local government. I mention this- because she believes she is above the law.
The state this occurred in was Tennessee. My ID was issued in Wisconsin.
What is the best way to pursue this situation?
