Given 10k Bonus At Work, With No Contracted Obligation To Work A Certain Amount Of Time. Would They Make Me Pay It Back If I Leave Within 6 Months ?

I started a job as a RN in socal and was offered 10,000 bonus with no strings attached. There was nothing mentioned in my offer letter, in any of my onboarding documents or during my interview with the HR rep that stated I needed to work for the company for x amount of time or be forced to pay back some of the bonus.

I am planning to leave at my 6 month mark when my lease ends. I miss my family, and want to move back closer to my hometown. The cost vs pay ratio in LA is poor and I’m very tired of the traffic and other issues surrounding living in LA. I had to go for this job as a last ditch option because I was still stuck in my 15 month lease at my apartment complex, otherwise I would’ve just left LA when I originally quit my initial job in LA. It was my first RN job, that ended up turning very toxic. I worked there for two years and they were requiring to float Labor and Delivery/Postpartum. People were unhappy, management was gaslighting me. Training was awful and hostile.
