Got A Speeding Ticket, Should I Do Driving School?
Hello I would love so some advice!
I got a speeding ticket in Richmond, Virginia and I am not sure how to proceed.
The cop told me that I could do driving school and present a certificate of completion to the judge on my court date in order to not have to pay the ticket, but he said only if I’ve never had to do it before.
Now I have had to do it before but it was 3 years ago and in a different county, is there like a reset date or one time and that’s it? And the way they did it was that the judge gave me driving school and I had to submit a certificate of completion after my court date not before.
So should I do driving school before my court date even though I’ve technically done it 3 years ago? I’m just asking because I remember the cost of the course and the court fees being similar as the ticket price. And I don’t want to pay for driving school AND the ticket in the case that they don’t accept my certificate, if that makes sense.
Some additional context: both scenarios did not involve a reckless driving charge, however technically on the ticket I have now the officer chose not to charge me with reckless driving even though he could have because of my speed. This is my second ever ticket. Officer said I have +4 points on my license whatever that means.
Any advice would be great! I didn’t want to ask the cop because I didn’t know if that would be an indication of guilt or not since the body cam was on.
