Guy Sold Me A Car With A Tax Lien

Long story short, about 9 months ago I bought a cheap $2,000 car. I did wait past the time it says you have to transfer titles and I was willing to pay the $100 fee but it turns out the guy I bought it from had a tax lien on this car. After many months of back and forth and trying to get him to take care of it, I finally went into the tax office and got him on the phone with the tax lady. He told he wasn't going to pay the lien and was being unruly. He told her I would have to contact him. So I called him back and he told me to f off. Don't call him again and sue him. We're talking about a $2,000 car. All I want to do is drive around with a legal car. He's refusing to pay his lien which is $2,000 and after calling him back and asking to be adults about it he told me to f off again and said sue me. He probably knows because it's only a $2,000 car. It's not worth getting a lawyer and all the effort over. My questions are what are my options? Is it worth going to small claims court over $2,000? Can I leave this car in the side of the road with flat tires, no keys, and nothing else working? Regardless of what I do with this car you would think he would just pay his lien because that's never going to go away until he takes care of it. I have no ties to this car and wouldn't be out my $2,000 I spent on it but it would cost him a lot to have it towed and or disposed of around here properly. So not only will he still have his lien to deal with but he'll also have the cost of this car. What are your thoughts?
