Had A Contractor To Fix My Roof With Money From Fema And The Roof Is Leaking Right After They Finished. Found Out They Aren't Licensed After Work.
I had a contractor come out and give me a quote and It sounded like a good deal and he asked if I needed a written one. He sent me a handwritten one and I accepted they worked for a week and I paid cash 3 times, once for the demo of old roof then for materials and again when they finished. During the roof being done the roof leaked and they said that the roof would need to be partly redone since it wasn't high enough and the water wasn't coming off the way it should. My dad was livid that they didn't do it the way he had built it years ago and he basically told them if they were not going to do it the way he had it they should leave. My dad also asked about their roofing license and found out they do not have a license to build roofs. then the guy threatened my dad saying he personally knew the county inspector and that with the current condition of the home we shouldn't have working power. (we had a tree fall on 2 parts of the house and the roof was one of these areas we are getting fixed first) but we also had a inspector come to look at the new power pole we had put in after tree broke the other one and it passed. So I'm assuming if they looked at pole which is near the room that roof was destroyed that they wouldn't have passed it if that was a issue? They fixed the roof and it was supposed to fix leak, but it leaked a few days after.
I am coming here to seek advice to pursue them in court since they are not replying to me about fixing the leak. We used the money we got from fema to fix roof and that was all we had for repairs and it's leaking. They have not replied and it's been 3 weeks. I have written contract from him and I now know that they do not have license to work. Can I take them to court to get my money back and report them for working without license?
