Hi Everyone, I Could Really Use Some Advice.

I’m a father of two, with a third on the way, and I’ve been at my current job for a year. During this time, I’ve never used any sick leave or annual leave. However, whenever I request to use sick leave, I’m asked why and what’s wrong with me, and it feels like it’s not considered a valid reason. When I request annual leave, it’s declined because they say there’s no backup for me.

Recently, my kids have been sick, and I haven’t been able to take a single day off to support my wife. It’s becoming difficult to manage everything at home. The pay here is really good, and we rely on it, so I don’t want to cause any issues or rock the boat, but I’m starting to feel undervalued and overworked.

There was one instance when my daughter was in the hospital, and even after explaining the situation, I was asked to come in. I was only allowed to work remotely this one time, with the reminder not to make it a habit.

I’m worried about creating conflict, but I’m feeling really stuck and frustrated. What would you suggest I do in this situation?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
