Hospital Violation
Hi, I need some legal advice. Recently, over this past weekend, I went to the hospital for treatment. While I was there, I saw a nurse I recognized from a few weeks prior. The first encounter I had with this nurse was at a friend's Thanksgiving dinner party, which is relevant to the story.
At the Thanksgiving dinner party, this woman appeared later in the night. I had no prior knowledge of her and had only minimal interaction with her during the night. After leaving the party and going to a bar for drinks, we all went our separate ways, and that was the last time I saw her.
Fast forward to the week of the 14th. Around 11:30 AM, I went to the hospital again for treatment. About 30 minutes into my visit, this nurse appeared in the waiting room, and I realized she was the same woman from the Thanksgiving party. I felt a bit nervous since I knew she was friends with my friend, but I didn't think about it too much, thinking we were in a hospital setting and they have rules about sharing patient's information and for the record I wasn't aware of her profession, so I was surprised to see her there.
During my visit, I was seen by four people: two nurses, one doctor, and a registration employee. The nurse in question took my vitals and assisted with another task. After receiving treatment, I was sent on my way, and the night went on without much thought about the visit.
The next day, I called my friend from the Thanksgiving party. I wanted to ask her a question unrelated to my hospital visit, intending not to mention that I had been to the hospital. When I told her I had a crazy weekend, she responded by saying, “I know, I heard,” and added something about me setting the bar real low. I pressed her for details, but she remained vague and unhelpful. I asked her who told her that information and she said you know which to me implied the women from the hospital told her some information about my visit there.
Eventually, I hung up. Immediately after, she texted me, saying not to be embarrassed and that she wouldn’t judge. This led me to believe that the nurse must have told my friend about my hospital visit sometime between Saturday and Sunday morning. I contacted a legal service, but they could not assist me with this matter because I do not qualify for their services. I filed a complaint with the hospital and spoke to the compliance officer, who asked clarifying questions about my time there. During our conversation, she mentioned that they were aware of one treatment I received but had no record of another. I insisted I had two things done and reminded her that I received a call on Sunday morning from a hospital employee regarding my visit and providing me with necessary information regarding my visit, which further confirms my belief.
Now, I'm seeking guidance on what to do next and if I can potentially pursue legal action. For the record, I reside in New York. Thank you for your assistance.
