House Sinking Rapidly After Rail Extension
Hello all, got a bit of a weird one for you. About 18 months ago, my city installed an above-ground rail extension about 70 feet from my home. Since then, my home has settled into the ground significantly, about 1.6 inches. This has cause cracks in the walls, windows not closing all the way, and a startling leftward lean on my home. I can feel the vibrations of the nearby train strongly when one passes.
Before then, the hose was totally fine. Built mid-70s, solid foundation. I had my father-in-laws friend come by, who is a structural engineer. He said that it would likely continue sinking rapidly, but didn’t want to say outright that the rail extension was the reason.
I spoke with the city planner and an engineer who worked for the rail company, who were both quick to dismiss my concerns (shocking, I know).
What are my options here? I feel like the city and rail company need to assist me with the repairs, but I don’t know how to get their attention. TYIA for your input!
