I Didn’t File An Incident Report At Target When I Fell And I Think I May Have Made A Huge Mistake With That.

Last week, I was out shopping with my sister. I had placed a pickup order at Target and my sister dropped me near the entrance. Right in front of the entry doors, there’s no curb, nice flat, even entry from the lot to the entrance. but as the sidewalk stretches out each direction, there’s a curb. Now, there is a yellow line in right as the asphalt from the lot ends and the concrete for the sidewalk/entry begins. But nothing where the curb starts sloping up. The day of the fall, it was already dark and it had been raining, and between the lights from the building, headlights from other cars, there was a bit of a glare on the sidewalk so it was somewhat hard to see. As soon as I stepped out of her car and walked towards the entrance, it looked flat but it wasn't so I tripped over the curb and fell pretty much flat on the ground, but my right arm and fingers, as well as my left knee took the brunt of the impact. My elbow and fingers were scraped pretty badly and bleeding. At the time, I thought only one employee witnessed the fall, as well as 2 customers that were coming out. The man and my sister helped me up. I was in pain, but everything was moving correctly, etc, so nothing appeared broken. I washed off the blood in the restroom, and then went and picked up my items at the customer service desk. At that point another employee lets me know she also saw the fall and mentioned to the other employee that she doesn’t know if she should have me fill out an incident report. I was mostly just really embarrassed and blew it off, saying I was clumsy.

I was healing well until a few days later, and I noticed my knee was swelling more than it had been, as was most of my left leg from the knee to my foot. My skin was also very red and itchy, but then I’d also have these random moments where it felt like someone was poking me all over with needles.

I decided on this past Saturday afternoon, exactly one week after the fall, to take myself to the ER to make sure there was no break/fracture that I didn’t consider or some sort of blood clot.

I ended up getting admitted for 24 hour observation, diagnosed with cellulitis, which is a bacterial infection in the skin. The hospital did all sorts of blood work, IV with antibiotics, and an ultrasound of my leg to make sure there was no blood clot.

This is obviously going to be a hefty bill not fully covered by insurance. Is it too late to file that incident report with Target? Would this actually fall under Target's responsibility or the city/designer of the lot.
