I Found Out I Haven’t Been Getting Paid For Over 8 Months…

I work full time year round for a very large ski resort in Vermont, primarily as a bartender, with some serving shifts. Our resort is cashless, so the vast majority of my tips are payed to me thru my bi-weekly paychecks. Because of this my checks vary in amount every pay period depending on the season and fluctuations in business at the restaurant. A few months ago I noticed some alarmingly low check amounts, even considering we were in “stick season”. When I asked my management about this I was informed that there had been some mistakes in resort payroll, tips had been misallocated, and some people had been grossly overpaid while others had been underpaid. Assuming this is what happened to me I have been trying to track down the mistake with some help from management, but have not seen any results. My paychecks continue to appear too low. I began this process in November, it is now January. Last week I found out that since our resort switched over to using Workday software back in MAY I have been making $0/hr as a bartender instead of the $15/hr I should be making. This was discovered purely by chance, by a manager not directly involved in this situation. I was informed of the issue, assured that HR was looking into it, and haven’t heard a word from anyone since. This was over a week ago. This seems alarming, and I am extremely upset. I plan to go to HR tomorrow to try to get some answers, but I guess I’m wondering if I should be doing anything else/more? Do I need to speak to a lawyer? I can’t really afford that since I HAVEN’T BEEN PAID FOR OVER 8 MONTHS, but obviously I will do whatever needs to be done to get to the bottom of this. Please help.
