I Gifted A Cat To My Friend, But I Still Pay For Necessities (litter, Food, Meds, Taking Care Of Them). Do I Technically Own Him And Would It Be Wrong For Me To Take Him Back?

I bought my friend a kitten. I had no problem buying him as a gift. She said she would buy all his necessities and she'll take care of him. She eventually stopped buying food and stopped changing the litter. I've been buying his food he's been staying with me because she's inbetween homes and she asked for me to hold onto him so he had a place. She gave me a definite date she'll move and then it keeps getting pushed. She hasn't even brought up or asked how he is doing. I tried to keep her updated and she hasn't acknowledged every time I try to bring him up. I eventually got hooked and I want to keep him. But the problem is I dont know if because I already paid for everything for him and I support him he's technically mine already. I have receipts and proof. I would like to find out what I can do.
