I Got Hit By A Car. Should I Go Through Insurance Myself Or Hire An Attorney?
I (20F) was walking across the street and got hit by a car about a month ago. It wasn’t a crosswalk. It was the end of a sidewalk and she was taking a left out of a parking lot. An ambulance was called and I was taken to the ER. My left leg was broken. I needed surgery and was able to get in that week. After surgery, I can’t put pressure on my foot for six weeks and then will start PT that should take about a year to recover completely (hopefully, with this break some people have issues for longer).
The lady who hit me released the entirety of her insurance policy, which ended up being 100,000. With my surgery alone costing a little over 31,000. I don’t yet have the bill for the ambulance and ER. Would it be smart to get an attorney? I met with one and she said they charge 1/3 of any released funds. I’m just trying to figure out what my best move would be. I’m meeting with my universities legal advice thing they offer later this week but I also want to get as much info as possible before deciding. Thank you!
