I Live In California And My New Apartment Owners Want To Raise Rent Right Away

Card image cap

I live in an apartment complex, and our previous property management that I've had a one year lease agreement with, has sold the property to an investment group. They just bought the property mid December, so our last monthly rental checks for the month of December went to the previous owners, and new rent payments will be sent to the new owners beginning the first of the year. Supposedly, they're gonna be raising everyone's rent come the first of the year, but the lease I had with the prior owners isn't up yet for another several months. Can the new owners do this to me, and just completely disregard any prior lease agreement since it was with the prior owners, or do the new owners still have to honor the price set by the lease agreement till the lease is up?
