I’m At My Wits End.
My boyfriend (20m) and I (19f) recently moved onto a new property with my sister (39,f) and I desperately need some legal advice. My sister, we’ll call her Eloise, just broke up with an abusive alcoholic, we’ll call James (40m), after 10 years. During the years we’ve always had issues with him threatening us and/or getting drunk and hitting things. (Their old woodpile, their old mailbox, etc.) I am entirely afraid of him. He has threatened to beat my boyfriend for simply pulling through his yard while we lived with him. Now, here’s where I need advice. I am unbelievably broke, and I don’t really don’t know what to do that can be affordable. Recently, he’s been getting drunk and flying by our home, revving the engine and he hit our trashcan. Unfortunately, we have no recordings but we are all physical witnesses. The other night, while I was enjoying our family Christmas, he told a family member of his he was going to hit our mailbox and proceeded to floor it down our road multiple times and did the same infront of my sisters boyfriends house. Before they broke up, he locked her out of their house and she had to call the cops to let her back in, nearly resulting in DV charges. Is there any way I can stop this nonsense? I’ve bought cameras but I’m scared he’s going to genuinely hurt one of us or swerve to hit us on the road or something. Maybe I’m overreacting and just need to give him time to get over it?
