I Think My Dad Stole My Financial Check. Forged My Signature And Cashed Them
I'm a 21M and I think my dad is taking my checks and signing off on them and I want to know what I can do to either. Get my money back or press charges.
Let me start from the beginning. I go to a state school in the U.S. and I get emails saying when a check for my financial aid will be sent in the mail. And usually it'll take 14 business days to get to my house. But I've noticed that I've been missing a few checks. Me being naïve thought they got lost or something happened to them so I waited a few more weeks. No dice, so I went to my college and asked them about this. It took them a week for them to get all my information but apparently out of the 5 checks that I'm suppose to get someone cashed 2 of them in my name and forged my signature on them. And then cashed them the same day they arrived in the mail. Now my signature is pretty sloppy but the one thing I don't do is separate my name when I write it.
Now I went to the college and they gave me a list of information.
1. The checks are from well fargo (if that helps)
2. The checks were also cashed at wells fargo
3. I have a copy both forged signatures
4. I also have my purchase history proving that it wasn't me that cashed them.
5. I don't have a wells fargo bank account and I don't have a joint/shared account with my main bank.
Other important things if this helps.
My checks were written for me on Oct 8 and Oct 10 and received in the mail and cashed on October 16th and October 21st.
I think it's my dad because he opens all the mail and also ripped the side of envelopes (to see inside) before giving them to me. I usually stay on campus for a week then come home on the weekends. Do I have any base to stand on to get my money back or at least press charges so that this doesn't happen to me or any of my siblings. He doesn't suspect a thing for the time being and believes he's gotten away with it.
