I've Been Paying For Health Insurance Through My Employer For 3 Months, I Just Found Out That They Never Registered My Plan. Can I Sue?
I had previously worked for this employer, and had the same plan (Premera BCBS). In 2023, I switched jobs for a year so also changed my coverage provider.
I went back to work for that original employer and I got my new card 3 months ago, stated date of benefits beginning 10/24/2024. The new card has the same ID number as the last time I was enrolled in that plan with my employer.
I tried logging in tonight, and is says that my plan is expired as of the date my coverage ended in 2023, and that I'm not eligible for benefits. I tried to call, customer service call hours are Mon-Fri, and online support requests take "one business day" to be replied to apparently.
I'm writing this as the husband of the person who's dealing with the situation, been saying "I" just for simplicity's sake, but this experience is so upsetting. My wife is currently undergoing a serious mental health crisis and probably will need to be hospitalized for treatment sometime in the next few days. I wanted to see what options there were, and the costs involved, and now I find that she might not even be enrolled? I have no idea now if it's an error on the insurers system or if her employer somehow forgot to registers.
My wife is having extreme panic attacks, daily, for multiple days in a row, and finally is sleeping so I had an opportunity to look into this. She is so so worried about the financial cost of hospitalization, and I have no idea what to say now because if I tell her the truth she will immediately spiral. She's presented clear and imminent danger of harming herself and me, and it's only a matter of time, hours maybe, until I need to call 911. I'm forced to have to lie to her now about her coverage? I'm sorry for excessive details
