I Was Convinced To Get A Car Loan For My Aunt Ex-husband At 18.
Hello community, I have a messy situation here. When I was 18 years old and living with my aunt, I was convinced that getting a car loan for her husband was a good idea to build my credit in return to help him because he couldn’t get approved for a loan. I accepted and got the car loan under my name. He payed the loan until they separated and after that I trusted that my aunt will be checking on him to make payments on time because I had no contact with this person at all. The loan is close to be payed off completely after some years and I have found out that my credit score 400… and I have 6 late payments, this person never told me of his financial struggles and my aunt stopped tracking his payments. I am really stressed because I can’t qualify for apartments due to my bad credit and late payment for a vehicle that I am not even using. He is now asking my aunt to ask me to transfer the title to his name because the car is almost payed off, but I don’t really now what to do. I am the only person that shows in the registration and been paying it every year. The car is insured under my name and but also his name.
Please I need advice on what I could do, he is not willing to pay me for the burden of my credit and I feel that I made a terrible decision that has affected my credit now for years. What should I do? Is it possible for me to take this car back once the loan is finished and sell it when I get the title? What could be the repercussions? I don’t have any key but I know where the car is.
I am now 24, any help will be appreciated. Thanks ????????
