Is There Any Way To Protect My Property As A Minor While Still Living With My Dad?
Hello, thanks for reading! Last week, I told my dad, who has primary guardianship, I don’t want to see him or continue our relationship after I move out. Most of my stuff is at his house, and while it’s just stuff, it’s my childhood stuff that has a lot of personal value and is irreplaceable. He’s already threatened “taking care of it” and if I tell him the value it has to me I think that’ll be weaponized. My plan is to move things to my moms but I want to finish high school at the same place I’ve been at for four years (my dad will unenroll me if I move) and need stuff here for school. I’m scared everytime I leave the house I’ll come back to everything gone, broken or in the trash. I just want to protect my stuff, Is there anything I can do? I’ve thought about and open to emancipation if that’ll help (but can I still “live under his roof” if I’m emancipated??). I highly doubt there’s anything I can do but decided to post anyways, thanks for reading all of it, any tips at all for navigating this situation would be much appreciated. Have a good one ????
