Landlord Refusing To Let Us Get Our Personal Property After A Fire.

January 2nd our home caught fire and we lost a cat in the fire. We had been a tenant since June 2021. We are in CT

The night of the fire he asked me if I mailed my rent check. Them told us to "Go home." When I cried this was my home he got in my face and said "You have a father. Go there."

The landlord has been shady. I put my mail on hold when I picked it up, there was a letter addressed to him and his wife for temporary housing assistance.

We called him Monday Jan 6th. He told us the house was still closed by the city and the city was doing it's investigation report. He did tell us our lease is terminated.

My husband called the fire Marshall and they said they released it the night of the fire and we had the report in our email within the hour.

Landlord told us we would be allowed in Thursday Jan 9th. I took the day off work for us to show up and he say we can't go in. He told us Friday we could go in, Then to call an hour later and say we can't go.

He is refusing to return calls from my insurance agent.

We need to get in and see what can be salvaged.
