Landlord Says Their New "master Policy" Renters Insurance Is Mandatory. Statefarm Agent Thinks This May Be Illegal.

Like the title says, our landlord company is telling me that it is mandatory to purchase their renters insurance although I already have renters insurance through Statefarm. And the landlords new policy doesn't have Content coverage which means that I would still need my Statefarm insurance while doubling up on the new "Master Policy" insurance from my landlord company.

I called my Statefarm agent and she gave me a list of questions to ask. I eventually got the answers. Statefarm agent says she doesn't know how what they are doing is legal.

Any thoughts / advice / tips on what to do or if this is even legal?

Looks like I'll be talking with department of Insurance soon.
