Landlord Won’t Compensate For Gross Negligence In Handling Water Leak

Hello all, this is my first time posting so bear with me.
My roommates and I are renting a house (in New Jersey if that matters for laws) and we’ve had problems with the water pipes here. In December, a pipe burst and left us without water for a week before they were able to send someone out to fix it (they had to tear up the floor in the bathroom because the crawlspace that led to the pipes was not large enough for a person to fit in), but they ended up repairing it and even said they were supposed to put in insulation to keep it from happening again.
Unfortunately, they didn’t actually insulate it, so another pipe burst in January, and our rental company proceeded to send out a series of plumbers and other workers (frequently without notifying us before they arrived) over the course of three weeks, all of whom arrived completely unaware of the situation they were walking into and who told us they couldn’t fix it, except for one plumber who said he thought he knew where the the leak was, but in order to fix it he’d have to go into the wall in the bathroom, and the rental company decided they didn’t want to pay a whole other team to fix what they’ve just now decided was part of the same problem from December. Instead, they thought they’d leave us almost a month with no functioning shower and a toilet we had to on-and-off flush with a bucket, because the original plumbers they hired in December were busy on another job and couldn’t come right away (after weeks of us jumping through hoops to even get the problem properly addressed).
They finally sent out plumbers who could actually fix it, only for us to realize the basement has flooded, which only happened because they sent two guys to remove a bunch of debris out of the crawl space a few days prior (the crawl space that they never even used), which we were told by one of the plumbers would keep the water out of our basement and which had been doing exactly that for three and a half weeks before they decided to waste everyone’s time sending men out so it could look like they were doing something instead of just ignoring us. The plumbers also informed us that there were several holes in the foundation which they said they could see daylight through, likely the reason behind the repeated freezing of the pipes. They later sent out a team of guys to patch up the foundation (once again without informing us of anything, we only found out they were there when the one guy knocked on our door and asked if he could go into the basement to check that they had patched it all up correctly from the outside).
Nothing really important got damaged except for several expensive American Girl Doll items from my sister’s childhood that she had stored down there, items that they don’t make anymore. After chasing them around for over a month, the company finally agree to compensate us fully for the rent for those days that we didn’t have water, but they refuse to cover the American Girl Doll (despite it saying in the lease that any of our personal property damaged by their gross negligence would be compensated) and also the difference in our electric bill (over $400) from what it would be normally, because our water heater is electric.
Is there anything we can do about this legally, or should we just settle for the rent compensation?
