Lawyer Charged Me 5k And Just Never Filed The Ro Against Dangerous Person

For context, (shortened version of the story) I met a guy at my job and he came off as super sweet and would help me with unpacking and setting up. I work as a vendor at a market so it was very helpful. Over a month, we got close and during the last week (before shit hit the fan) he asked me out and I agreed. On our date his personality completely switched, and he started being extremely aggressive, crazy, and threatening to me. He then proceeded to lock me in his car and threaten me. The situation just got worse and worse and I had to file a restraining order from 1000s of calls I’d receive a day and threats to my friends and family. I ended up hiring a lawyer because he would not stop threatening me and began saying he was going to sue me for my savings. The lawyer charged me 5k and told me since the man owned property, I would be able to get it back because of the extent of the abuse and all the proof I had.

Fast forward to the trial,

I come prepared to court and the lawyer comes, he asked me the questions .., but forgot an extremely important document that showed what the restrained person stole from me (3k worth of business supplies).

I was granted a 3 year restraining order, but wasn’t granted my 3k back because he forgot the documents. The lawyer told me to just get over the lost money (8k) The thing is that was all my savings and I was promised I would get it back.

I reached out to him complaining about the incompetence in court , and he told me he’d prepare the motion for legal fees at “no cost” (being that I already gave him 5k to literally rewrite a statement I wrote and show up to court missing documents and LATE.

Fast forward to 3 months later,

The restrained person is showing up at my job, driving past my home screaming. So I ask the law firm and they tell me to reach out to the police as he is commiting a crime. I submit the report with videos and photos, and a detective reaches out to my saying my RO was never served to the restrained person.

My lawyer never ever told me that I needed to serve him, he told me I was safe, and that him constantly harassing me was a crime. Come to find out they never filed the 3 year RO paperwork or served him and I’ve basically been unprotected for the past 5 months really scares me and I’m really angry about it.

I wanted to ask if you guys know if this is a malpractice or what I can do in this situation. It was already hard enough dealing with a stalker who has been trying with all his might to ruin my life, and now I have a predatory lawyer situation who didn’t even do the work to file the RO or serve him.

What are my rights in this situation? I’m feeling so lost. This is in LA county
