Lawyer Won’t Return Emails Or Phone Calls

My daughter was in a car accident with injury in Texas. It’s complex as three cars were involved, and the initiating car was a hit and run. He pushed car 2 into my daughter’s car head on, causing injury and totaling the vehicle.

I hired a lawyer to help my daughter(16 at the time) maximize her benefits, and I didn’t want to learn how to be a lawyer to navigate this. I interviewed a few firms, and picked the guy that was most helpful and forthcoming.

Now that we’re a couple months post accident, this guy won’t return my phone calls or emails. I have simple questions about when certain things will happen, or when they will initiate parts of the process. His paralegal won’t or can’t answer my questions, and his promises to get the lawyer to call me back go nowhere.

My question is - seeing as how my only legal recourse is to look for recovery from driver 2, the person who actually hit my daughter, should I bother with a lawyer at all? I could fire them and just collect on my uninsured policy, push for the max payout to cover her bills and other losses and call it good? I don’t see how working with a lawyer that won’t talk to me helps me at all.
