Live W/ Mil& Husband.reverse Mortgage & He's Taken Off The Title. I Was Not Aware Of This. Should I Have Been Consulted? What Will Happen To Us? Legally Is There Anything I Can Do?
MIL and husband bought a house together, both on title. Ten years later he married me and I moved in. Have lived in the house for 24 yrs. We have 3 kids. MIL remortgaged the house twice and I was required to sign. Without me knowing my MIL got a reverse mortgage and my husband agreed to be taken off the title. Now she's moving into a expensive seniors home and says she needs money from the sale of the house to live there. We can't buy back the house- we would need 700k because that's what's left on the mortgage.
Shouldnt I have been required to sign for a reverse mortgage ?or was my signature not needed because I'm not on the title? Can she really sell the house and leave my husband and three kids basically homeless? He paid into the house for over 30 years but now has nothing to show. His lawyer had strongly advised against removing himself from the title but MIL is intimidating ( &self absorbed,& manipulative which is irrelevant I know)so I'm assuming he was pressured then scared to tell me. I'm worried & angry. My kids don't even know yet . Is there anything I can do to save the house or receive some money from the sale so that I can provide housing for my children?
