Mechanic Caused $9k Of Damage To Our Vehicle. What Can We Do? (co)

My wife had an emergency issue with her vehicle. The mechanic she took it to had good reviews. Seemed okay at first when he went to make the repair, but then offered to do an additional maintenance service for it. When we went to pick it up, he said he couldn’t perform the additional service and put everything back together. We left with additional warning lights. Then it leaked fuel and had to be returned to the mechanic who repaired the fuel leak. When we took it to the dealer, we were hit with a $9k bill.

Now the original mechanic has closed up shop and skated out of town after we confronted him. Is there anything we can do or are we stuck with no recourse?
