My 6 Year Old Got Choked At School Yesterday By Another Student

I am a mother that was notified my 1st grader was choked in class yesterday. Wasn’t until his grandma picked him up from school where she noticed my son was crying and then my little 8 year old brother, who also attends the school, was crying as well because my son was distraught about what happened.
His grandma went to the main office and wanted to talk to the principal but apparently he was not available for whatever reason and the assistant principal was made aware of the situation. As soon as I found out, I left my job and went to the main office.
I arrived and asked if I may speak to the principal. The front desk lady asked me if I had an appointment to speak to him. I said no, but my son got choked in class and I need to speak to him and the teacher. The front desk lady said oh, the assistant principal has been made aware of the situation let me see if you can speak with him.
I sat down to speak with him and I felt I was given the runaround. I needed answers from the teacher but according to my sons story, she didn’t see it until another kid yelled that my that my son was getting choked. I don’t know the severity of how strong or long this happened but fact is, it happened and my son was crying. This other kid is known to cuss at the teacher, be disruptive in class and be mean to other kids in class.
Long story short, assistant principal made a comment stating “this happens at every school” referring to bullying. (Like wtf) He reached out to teacher who was still on campus, she was apparently busy at the moment and she would get back to me through text to schedule a meeting tomorrow morning.. Did that happen? No. It is now tomorrow morning. I don’t feel comfortable leaving my son in that class. How should I go about this ? What can I do as a parent ? Should I file a police report?
