My Brother And Sister Want To Take Some Of My Inheritance

Card image cap

Location: AL in the USA.

Background first, question near the end.

Throwaway account because sister is on here. I 33(M) and my siblings, 38(M) and 29(F) have recently closed on my mom's estate, she passed a few years ago and did not have a living will. We signed all of the paperwork and have the money deposited into an account awaiting for it to be verified then we can withdraw from it. The issue is that my dad did some work on the property to bring up the value and now my brother and sister want to give him a 4th split of the inheritance instead of a splitting it 3 ways like the paperwork we signed from the bank notated. I have no issues helping him out for the work he did, but it was all off of the books. Nothing was ever signed or stated agreeing to split the inheritance 4 ways. Nor was an estimate for the work to be done or the hours it would take and how much the compensation would be.

The property was not some mansion, it was a mobile home and property that we listed for $90k and sold for $78k. After all legal fees and debts settled, the total put into the inheritance account was ~$61k. Now my brother and sister are saying that we have to compensate my dad by giving him money from the inheritance account. I offered $2k from my share to help him out. Also my dad is not licensed as a contractor to do any work. From what I was told, he installed new carpet in the bedrooms (3 rooms), put in snap together hardwood in the living-room and painted. My guess this would have taken maybe ~40 hours to complete (I don't know, I don't work in construction or renovations). They are saying he did 6 weeks of work at 40 hours a week. I don't think that much work was done and there is not exactly timecards to show it. Important note that my brother paid for all legal fees and any materials used, but he told me he was offered a check by the executor before closing on the sale that would have paid him back for all of this and he said no it was fine he had the money to cover the costs.

That brings us to my question. Are my siblings allowed to take a some of the money out and give to my dad without my permission? Also if they do take it without my permission and are not allowed to, what course of action do I take?

Some side notes if anyone wonders. I live many states away and my dad has not been in my life for many years, nor my sister. No hatred, just moved away and living my life.

Anyone thinking this is greed and wondering why not just help my dad out, I will be using the money to immediately pay off debts that piled up during covid years back. I'm not going out and buying a new car or going on some lavish vacation.

Update:

My dad has now decided to send a cost of labor and materials bill to the 3 of us. I have not seen it yet just updating as I go here. I have no issues with paying this as long as the costs are not inflated unreasonably and I was told the cost would come out of the inheritance before it is split between us. Of course if someone here says that they are trying to trick me here, I would like to know how to address this.
