My Car Caught On Fire

Hi all, my car caught on fire after a Jiffylube oil change, the timing belt burned up and engine got destroyed. The rest of the car is in good shape, but Jiffylube are not accepting responsibility. My mechanic took photos of the filter/burnt belt that show that origin of fire appears to be from the filter.
This event happened back in June 2024 and it has taken some time to get here:
- May 14 - Service event at JiffyLube. Oil filter and oil change
- June 22 - Engine catches on fire (1700 miles later), so under Jiffy warranty
- Sept 24 - Wrote to Jiffylube customer care regarding this issue
- Sept 25 - Jiffylube contacted me and my mechanic to review engine and filter
- Sept 25 to Oct 23 - reviewed engine and filter, Jiffylube left with the filter for testing
- Oct 25 - Jiffylube called to say that the oil filter was tested ok and that the mechanical seal would be inspected
- Oct 29 - Jiffylube called to say that the mechanical seal was inspected and no issues found. I requested a report and have not received anything
- Nov 4 - submitted negative review on Google for JiffyLube following lack of action
- Nov 5 - Jiffylube contacted me via Google reviews promising to review the issue, no response since
From a proof standpoint:
- Have photos of the filter and burnt timing belt showing origin of fire
- Getting written record from mechanic re: their assessment of the same
- Do not have the original filter - in Jiffy's possession, but I supposedly can retrieve it
- Do not have any written reports from Jiffy - all verbal - I have asked for written reports but been ghosted
Need some advice on this, how should I proceed from here? It seems to me that the burden of proof is on me to prove that the fire came from their filter. I'm pretty well-versed with things mechanical but have no experience with legal stuff.
Thanks in advance!
