My Car Got Hit In The Middle Of The Night By A Dui Driver And I’m Unable To Get The Perpetrator’s Insurance Information If They Even Have Insurance
I (25M) just graduated from graduate school, and my car (and 4 others) got hit in the middle of the night, Dec 5th 6 AM in Philadelphia, PA, by a DUI driver. I only received a police report number which I found on my dashboard. I reached out to the police department, but they told me that I needed to contact my insurance company (Allstate) and file a claim so that my insurance company could find out the insurance information of the perpetrator. Apparently, the police dept can’t let me know the perpetrator’s name for legal reasons, and didn’t have the status of whether the perpetrator had insurance because the driver was too inebriated to provide that information upon arrest. I have liability insurance, so I’m aware that I won’t receive any coverage from my insurance. However, initially my insurance told me they’d investigate the perpetrator’s insurance status and name and get back to me in 10 business days. I waited 10 days and got no response, so I called them to check in on the status. They told me that I had no coverage for my car, so they don’t proceed with things like looking up the perpetrator’s insurance information. I begged and they still said there was nothing they could do. I called the police department again, and they told me I have to speak with the office that was on duty when the report was made in order to get any more information, so my next step is to give them another call when she’s on duty. What else can/should I do? It’s been 3 weeks since the accident and my car has just been sitting there damaged, and I need my car back.
