My Coworker Got Fired For Sexually Harassing And Basically Stalking Me. What Are The Next Steps? (philadelphia, Pa)
My former coworker (20sM) and I (20sF) worked together at a professional services firm for a few years. We had minimal interaction, as the firm lets people work remotely and we never worked on the same clients. My interactions with him mainly consisted of greeting each other at the occasional work happy hour.
Over the summer, my former coworker got my personal cell number from my email signature. He asked me out on a date and I turned him down nicely.
Long story short, I didn't have any interactions with him for a while after that. We had a couple of work functions over the past two months and I guess that he didn't handle the rejection well and seeing me in person must have really set him off.
At the above mentioned work functions, his actions towards me included, but are not limited to physically hitting me on purpose and following me to a bar so that he could harass me.
Recently, this all culminated in him sending me a love letter on my work computer, trying to cold call me on said work computer (I declined), and sending me a work IM begging me to not 'give up on the craziest love story of all time' and to go on a date with him.
In the letter, he went into detail about how he liked me and that it was so obvious I liked him back. He also mentioned that he waited an entire day in Philly. waiting for me to text him.
He was fired soon after.
He is obsessed with me and is convinced that the feeling is mutual. He told one of my coworkers that he would never leave me alone. He showed another coworker his texts towards me and she told me that he was spam texting my number, begging me to answer him (I blocked his number, so I did not receive any of these texts)
I am concerned because a few months ago, a different coworker walked me home from a work function and my harasser trailed behind us, so he 100% knows where I live. I am terrified of him and am scared to leave my home.
I filed an informational police report a few days ago. I wanted to file a restraining order, but was told that I probably wouldn't be able to get one and that I need to send him a cease and desist letter?
I've been receiving conflicting advice and I'm not really sure how to proceed. I've been told by some parties that I need a criminal lawyer, and have had others tell me I need a civil lawyer.
I'm also having a lot of difficulty finding resources to guide me through this, since it's my former coworker and not someone I dated. It seems like most resources in Philly are geared towards domestic issues and not acquaintance.
He hasn't tried to reach out to me since getting fired, but I'm still concerned since he is holding onto me rejecting him over the summer and is obsessed with me.
