My Dad Bought Us A House, Now He Wants Us Out. [mi]
We live in Michigan.
I want to preface this with, I know. I know I was stupid. I was in a very desperate place when everything I'm about to explain went down.
Years and years ago, my dad bought a house for me and my kids, but he kept it in his name. It's not in my name at all, but I have lived here with my children and paid all the bills (to my dad) for several years. I have three young kids, one who is severely delayed & disabled. Moving would be very very difficult for us.
My dad got a stuck up his rear and decided one day that he wanted me to buy him out for double what the house was worth, or he was going to file for bankruptcy and kick us out. I would love to buy this house and stay here and not uproot my children entirely... But I don't know what to do or how to do it.
Dad has stopped covering the payments on the house and now we're getting all kinds of notices and letters warning of impending removal. Who do I go to? What do I do? I don't want to move, not this close to Christmas and not with a severely disabled child, not if i can help it but I don't know what to do or who to talk to.
Working things out with my dad is not an option. He came over with the police one time to try to remove us, then got told by the police that he has to go through legal means to get us out. I to this day don't know what his problem is other than I refused to pay double what the house is worth to him to get him out. And since then he has blocked me, told the police to tell me never to speak to him again, and has stopped paying and started making threats he's told other people to message me with.
What do I do? The children's father is no longer a part of our lives so he is irrelevant.
