My Dad Passed 6 Years Ago. Now I Find Out There’s A Life Policy.

Hello, looking for some advice here. My dad passed almost 6 years ago. At the time, we had no idea he had a life policy through his employer. By chance today we were having a discussion at work and someone mentioned how they visited our states Unclaimed property site. I never knew this was a thing, so I searched my name - nothing. Then I searched my dad’s name and the life policy came up.
This had to be a life policy through his employer as I looked it up and they only offer group life policies. How do I proceed with this? Would I need a probate lawyer?
When my dad passed away my husband and I practically took his place as providers for my mother (who can’t work), and my six siblings (who were all minors at the time, 3 of them are now over 18 and help out).
Any advice on this would be great!
