My Father Passed And I’m Now Stuck Trying To Figure Out How Settle His Debts And Collect His 401k And Life Insurance

Hi there. I'm a 24(M) and I need some help. I found my father and step mother deceased (they were not married) a couple months back and I've been stuck in a hole trying to figure out what to do estate wise I guess? He didn't own property (except miscellaneous items and a car that's paid off and I have the title)-they were renting and the people he was renting from already forced me out of house so I had to clean, donate, or store whatever was in the house or they were going to throw everything away.

My fathers job did help with a GoFundMe and it helped pay for their burials and their service, but once that was all settled it took a massive chunk of the money. I'm still waiting on my dads final death certificate, but he had life insurance and a 401k.

The problem comes in here because me and my dad had an on and off relationship and I'm not the beneficiary on anything. I'm trying to avoid going to probate because I'm trying to move out of the country for personal reasons and also to start a family with my fiancé, and I do not have the funds for an attorney/lawyer.

I'm also worried I may have screwed myself by already clearing out the house and donating items he owned which may affect the estate if I do have to go to probate.

I just want to make sure im doing everything legally because I don't want to get in trouble. Im my fathers only child.
