My Mom Posted (photoshopped) Nsfw Pictures Of Me On Several Adult Websites And Sent The Links To My Relatives And Friends. What Now?

I (32F) am in Florida and my mom (62F) is in Alabama. For context, I went no-contact with her back in June for a variety of reasons, and in response, she started posting fake obituaries for me online that implied I died by suicide.

My grandmother messaged me at Christmas to let me know that my mom had sent her a “concerning” text. In the message to her, my mom stated that she had to cut contact with me because she couldn’t support my new career. Then she attached several links to different adult websites that led to photoshopped pictures of me in which I appeared nude. She asked my grandmother to join her in prayer for the salvation of my soul.

I reached out to the rest of my extended family, and every single person I spoke to had received the same message. Then I had a friend who is “friends” with her on FB message me to say that she had gotten a really weird private message from my mom. You can guess what it was of.

I contacted the site administrators for several of the websites, but I haven’t heard back from them or spoken to an actual human yet.

I do have a no-contact order in place against my mom. However, she didn’t technically try to contact me. She didn’t even ask for information about me from anyone she messaged, and she didn’t use her texts as a means to send me a message. So I don’t think the order was technically violated.

And since she’s in Alabama and I’m in Florida, it’s been really difficult to get the police to take the no-contact order seriously. Every time something happens, the police here just call her to remind her of the order and to give her a warning. Then she plays dumb and says she has no clue what they’re talking about, and that’s that. When I ask the police what can be done to stop her harassment, they just tell me to change my phone number and to move to a different area if possible. But when I went no-contact with her, I DID change my number; I also set up a Google Voice number for the few relatives I still speak to so there wouldn’t be any chance of them sharing my real contact information with her. When I tell the police this, they use it as the end point to our conversation; they tell me I took the right steps to prevent contact and to call them back if anything else happens.

Because of this, I’ve been hesitant to contact the police regarding the photos. I don’t want to show the pictures to anyone or have them documented in a police report if there’s nothing that can be done. And if the police can’t do anything about the photos, I don’t want them to contact my mom with a warning because that just shows her she got to me, and it always emboldens her next move.

So I guess what I’m asking is if I went to the police, could they do anything about this? The sites are all hosted overseas. The photos are of me as an adult, not as a child; she is not blackmailing or extorting me whatsoever; and she’ll definitely deny it was her if she’s confronted. I know the police could technically obtain the IP address used to post the photos in order to prove it was her, but I’m not sure how that works when the sites are hosted overseas.

So is this worth pursuing, legally speaking, or is there nothing the police can really do for this type of crime (is this even a crime?)?

Thank you.
