My Mother Passed Away Six Months Ago And My Father Received A Letter From Dcm About Debt.
My mother passed away in August and had no debts except medical bills from when she was terminally ill and hospitalized. After she passed I called the hospital to inform them of her passing and I sent the death certificate. My father received a letter in the mail today from DCM asking who’s responsible for the estate. I checked the account online and it shows that 3k of debt went to collections.
My father lives off his social security which isn’t much and barely covers his mortgage, utilities, etc. There’s no estate, no life insurance. I support him financially as well. Is he responsible for paying the debt? He didn’t sign any paperwork at the hospital claiming responsibility. We live in TN. I'm confused, worried, and don't know what to do.
