My Neighbor Verbally Threatened Me At My Doorstep

My neighbor across the street from me came to my door earlier and threatened me personally. His son 19 was on video posted on a neighborhood group and I knew his truck and enclosed trailer on camera and pm'd my neighbor his license plate.
My neighbor across the street (the sons Dad) Cam over and said he knows a lot of people and what I did was illegal (sharing license plate with the homeowner).
How did my neighbor's friend Tony learn of my message, not sure but when I asked my neighbor when he said he knows people and need to watch what I say and to who, he doubled down and got closer to me. I replied thanks so much for letting me know and closed my front door and he walked away.
I'm not sure of what to do. Did I do anything wrong, it was the kids truck, and they were trying to break into a neighbors garage. I was truly trying to be a good neighbor, and wasn't trying to stir up any drama. I just feel icky after the interaction. He knows I'm a single person and my partner lives in another state. He definitely tried to intimidate me, and I do feel like his message and double down was a threat.
What can I do, go to the police, get an order of protection? Is that even enough? I don't feel safe, I don't want to be a target and I genuinely would have shared any license plate of anyone who committed a crime, and I hope they would too. Just feels like a wanna be mobster protecting his kids, the way he went about it wasn't cool. Besides moving, what are my options to live here for now and be across from this creeper and his thug wanna be kids?
