My Son Got Hit By A Speeding Van- Need Advice

My son just got hit by a speeding van while crossing at crosswalk. The van driver was speeding and there weee witnesses. Bruise to his hands and legs and may be a broken ankle.

There were 3 ppl in the van and couple of them ran away for some reason. The cops came and called an ambulance. They took my details as well as the drivers.

The cop tells me in a convincing way, “don’t work he will get a ticket”.

My son is currently in emergency and waiting for the doctor to check. Seems nothing major but he was unconscious for more than 15 min when this happened. I’m in NJ and looking for advice. Should I get an attorney?

Another guy walks by after a while claiming he is a witness (looked sketchy) and he saw the accident driving by and said the van driver tried to apply brakes and it was too late. The van driver also claims he has huge load of water bottle in his van and hence was unable to stop in time.
