My Teacher Forced Me To Be In A Youtube Video Without My Consent
In 8th grade, a couple of years ago, my teacher ran a YouTube channel for morning announcements. He made the entire class participate, even if we didn’t want to. I tried refusing, but he forced me to get up and record anyway.
I talked to my mom about it, and she told me she had only signed a form allowing them to take photos for the yearbook, nothing more. I don’t understand how they had the right to record me when I explicitly refused.
I have ADHD and anxiety, so being put in that situation was incredibly stressful. While recording, I was so nervous that I kept twisting the microphone, which ended up being noticeable. After the video was posted and shown as part of the announcements, I got made fun of for an entire week.
What made it worse is that the videos were posted on YouTube, which anyone can access. Knowing that the footage of me could be seen by literally anyone online was terrifying. I didn’t consent to it, and it felt like such a huge violation of my privacy.
The bullying got so bad that just a couple of months later, I left the school entirely. I still think about how unfair it was and wonder if this was even allowed.
Has anyone else experienced something like this? Do schools even have the right to do this?
