My Wife Had To Miss An Out Of Town Work Training Due To Being In The Hospital, Now They Want Her To Pay For The Hotel.

I live in Texas. My wife ended up in the hospital on a Saturday night due to sharp abdominal pain. The hospital ended up thinking it was a kidney stone and discharged her that night. Saturday night my wife informed her supervisor that she was in the hospital but still planned on going to the training the next day. Sunday afternoon she was still having mild pain but ended up decided to drive to her work training that was a few hours away. Her work training was going to be classroom based, Monday-Friday and her work was going to pay for both the hotel & the training. Monday morning she woke up with extreme abdominal pain and ended up having to leave the hotel and started heading home. By the time she got home she realized it would be best to go back to the hospital. After being admitted, she notified her supervisor that she had to leave and was now in the hospital. She ended up being admitted for 2.5 days, being given medicine the entire time due to the intense pain she was in. With the way this all escalated, we completely forgot to cancel the hotel until we realized that Wednesday.

Her work is now trying to get her to pay out of pocket for the hotel. I'm assuming the whole week, Sunday-Friday. Still trying to get more information about what their expectations are but they are being unclear.

Can they expect someone who has to leave for a medical emergency- someone who ends up in the hospital for several days- to pay out of pocket for the hotel?

Please let me know if there is any additional questions that we could ask to clarify stuff for you guys. Thanks ahead of time!

Edit: If they ended up wanting us to pay for Monday-Wednesday since we forgot to cancel it then I could maybe understand that, but it sounds like they may want her to cover all of the expenses.

The hotel reservation was not made by my wife, and she notified her supervisor at 5am on Monday that she was having to leave. Should the expectation of cancelling fall on my wife on her employer that she notified before she even had to leave?

edit #2: Sounds like they're just wanting her to cover Monday and Tuesday's expenses for the hotel. Sadly we have way too much going on in life to justify trying to argue our way out of this. Think we're just going to bite the bullet and pay. Thank you all for your time and I hope life is treating you alright!
