My Wife Wants To Get Divorced On Paper So She Can Get Benefits For Our Sick Son, Is This A Thing?

Currently in the hospital with my infant son who is sick with a virus. Some background, he has a heart condition and was hospitalized for a month and a half after birth, so he is eligible for Medicaid and WIC until he is 1, which is ending soon. It has been a struggle financially even with Medicaid and my private insurance. I have a decent job and the salary puts us just out of the range for any government assistance, so once we lose those benefits it will be even harder. My wife said she spoke to the social workers here and they told her we could get a dissolution of marriage and then she and our son would be eligible since she has no income and he is technically considered disabled. I told her that I don’t think it works like that, I would still be paying all our bills and he’s still my son and we’d be living together so my income would still count. Is this really something that can be done?
