My Work Place Wants Us All To Turn Our Phones In Every Morning.
Hi!! I currently work at a daycare and also have a baby that goes to said daycare two days a week. The other three days she is watched by family members.
Recently my place of work has started wanting us to turn in our phones in one of the directors office each morning in a pouch on the back of the door.
With my kid not being there every day, I don’t feel comfortable with this. I told my boss this and he suggested giving my family our phone number and/or my classroom’s direct line. This would be fine too if my directors were in their offices all day but they never are. They’re so hard to get ahold of even for us employees.
They’re treating us like children but I guess my question is: Is it legal for them to make us turn our phones in like this? The research I’ve done says no but I wanted to check with some people in this group. They threaten write ups if we’re caught with our phones on us at all. Said phone being my property that I pay for.
This wouldn’t be an issue for me if I wasn’t a parent. Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!
