Neighbor Is Placing Towing Stickers On Cars. Is There Anything I Can Do?
To start, this is happening in Indiana.
I moved into this apartment around August. The parking lot is constructed weird where there’s barely space for everybody to park and space to move around other cars, except for the middle of the parking lot. There’s like enough room for one more set of spaces. Imagine the shape of the lot as an H almost but the middle wider. So sometimes, when there’s no spaces, resident (including I) take advantage of the extra spaces in the middle and park there. It doesn’t block anybody in and cars are still able to enter/exit. In the beginning, I didn’t realize it wasn’t a parking space since the lines are faint and others park there too.
However, there are some residents that get really really really upset by this. The reason for this post is because a particular resident is placing towing stickers on people’s car (including mines). I spoke with the office and they said this was illegal and that I could file a police report. However, I did catch the suspect while placing a sticker on my car and he said it wasn’t illegal. So I wanted to know if it’s illegal or legal and what my next steps could be? I’m a little hesitant on the police report since it feels petty and technically it’s not a painted parking spot. But I don’t mind doing whatever is best and get this guy to stop doing this to cars.
