Never Paid An Out-of-state Fine, 10 Years Later I’m Freaked Out And Idk What To Do

Recently I started the application for Global Entry but stopped when I realized I had something on my record that might get me rejected. 10 years ago (give or take a few months) I was issued a citation for possession of weed, under 15 grams.

The problem is that this was in a state where I do not, nor have I ever lived. The fine was maybe $200 but being a careless 20-year-old I completely forgot to pay the fine and I couldn’t make the court date (I live pretty far from where I got the citation). As more time passed I became less sure of how to handle the issue and I guess it just fell off my radar entirely.

I should mention that since then I have rented apartments, gotten jobs that require a background check, renewed my passport and my license, and travelled internationally with no issue. But now I’d like to apply for Global Entry or TSA precheck and it occurred to me that this may show up when they run a background check.

So my question is how to go about taking care of this fine now. Can I assume there is a bench warrant out for me in that state? Has the fine ballooned to some insane amount? Can I call the magistrate to clear things up without this ruining my life? I still have the ticket/citation number.

Pretty stupid and embarrassing situation, but if anyone has helpful input (beyond letting me know I’m an idiot) I would be so incredibly grateful.
