No Running Water In Nc As A Renter

Card image cap

Been renting this house since April 2024. Our pipes froze two weeks ago- open concept crawlspace barely any insulation under the house. We live on the side of a mountain on stilts so wind just blows right under our house. Boyfriend sat under house with commercial heater for a couple of days trying to unthaw. - told landlord to contact a plumber and then it snowed and our house was not reachable by car for 7 days. She contacted a plumber the 10th of January and one finally came out the 18th of January. During that time we figured out it was most likely the well so boyfriend sat for hours with a heat lamp at the well. Eventually figured out it’s not frozen but the well pump or something with the well was broke instead. When the plumber came out he came to the same conclusion that it was the well. So now to get a well company out here. (She’s called they haven’t answered)

Back to April 2024- our move in date was April 1st. Landlords let us come a couple days early and we figured out there was no running water- I contacted multiple well company’s and helped them get someone out here since we didn’t have water. Landlord lives 5 hours away so at this point it was implied she wanted to be hands off. Eventually a well company came out and fixed the well pump- !!! the landlord at this point didn’t even know she had a well on this property and on our lease it says we have city water!!! Finally got running water by April 7th- rent wasn’t prorated. Is there anything I can do to not pay her full rent for this month or could we break the lease since the well isn’t even in it?
